Floyd Mayweather’s professional comeback has been rumoured throughout 2026, and now it seems the five-division world champion may deliver on a ‘mega-fight’.
The expectation was that ‘TBE’ would return in a lucrative rematch against Manny Pacquiao, but the Netflix-backed event collapsed due to Mayweather’s ongoing legal issues. Though it has been postponed rather than cancelled, no rescheduled date has been offered.
It has not stopped ‘Pac Man’ from continuing his pro career, as the Filipino icon may instead feature on the blockbuster Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua bill in December – his first undercard appearance since fighting in the co-main event of the Erik Morales vs. Zahir Raheem card back in 2005.
And it seems as though Pacquiao is not the only one moving on from the rematch, with FightHype reporting that talks are now underway for a surprise showdown between Mayweather and reigning WBC welterweight world champion, Ryan Garcia.
Following the news, the Californian superstar confirmed those reports on his X account, revealing that Mayweather has reached out to him for the opportunity but stating that he will only agree to a professional contest, rather than an exhibition.
And no I wouldn’t do an exhibition I want his 0 on the fucking line. How much does he actually think he got left.
I’m ready Floyd, remember you made this call. I’m just returning the favor. Offer is on the table.
Accept or not, if not I move foward as I have been.

“No, I wouldn’t do an exhibition. I want his 0 on the f***ing line. How much does he actually think he got left?
“I’m ready Floyd, remember you made this call. I’m just returning the favour. Offer is on the table.
“Accept or not, if not I move forward as I have been.”
The bout would presumably go ahead in 2027 and, should it take place on February 24 or after, Mayweather would have the chance to become the first 50-year-old (or older) to hold a world title in the history of the sport. That is assuming the WBC would approve the contest, though given the sanctioning body’s willingness to rank legendary champions highly – Pacquiao being a prime example – it is not out of the question.
Currently, Bernard Hopkins holds the record of being the oldest world champion having lost his light-heavyweight world titles to Sergey Kovalev as a 49-year-old back in 2014. If Garcia-Mayweather is scheduled after December 24, 2026, Mayweather could break Hopkins’ fabled record with victory over ‘King Ry’.
Of course, most fans will recognise that many things must happen, including Mayweather settling any disputes still remaining from the Pacquiao contracts, before it become even slightly realistic.
