BANTAMWEIGHT prospect Kenneth Egano has passed away aged just 22.

On Saturday, May 6 the Filipino from General Santos City boxed in an eight-round bout against Jason Facularin. Egano won on points but collapsed in his corner during the announcement of the result at the Imus Sports Gymnasium, Cavite in the Philippines.

The card was promoted by his countryman and national hero Manny Pacquiao as part of a weekly boxing TV programme called Blow by Blow.

Egano was taken from the venue to the Imus Doctors Hospital. The fighter was placed into a coma after a brain haemorrhage was discovered.

Pacquiao covered all of Egano’s medical costs but sadly the young man lost his life four days later.

On Facebook the 23-year-old Facularin mourned the passing of his opponent.

“I didn’t expect that this will happen when we did our best. Why did it happen to us? Sorry that it happened. I hope you’re in a good place.”

The Games and Amusements Board, who oversee professional sport in the Philippines, released a statement saying, “The entire Games and Amusements Board (GAB) agency mourns the passing of professional boxer Kenneth Egano. Our condolences to Kenneth’s family, relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”

Everyone at Boxing News offers their condolences to the family and friends of Kenneth Egano. May he rest in peace.
