WBO heavyweight world champion Fabio Wardley has laid out his prediction ahead of Derek Chisora’s fight against former WBC ruler Deontay Wilder.
Chisora has been linked to a host of heavyweights since defeating Otto Wallin a year ago, with his next outing his 50th, after competing for almost two decades.
However, despite suggestions that Chisora could challenge for Wardley’s title, it has instead been announced that ‘Del Boy’ will collide with Wilder at the O2 Arena in two months’ time, hoping to destroy the American’s plans to challenge Oleksandr Usyk for the unified world title.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Wardley admitted that he favours his countryman in the fight due to the poor form and mentality of ‘The Bronze Bomber’, who has lost four of his last six fights.
“Chisora. I think he has just got more in the tank. We haven’t seen that kind of devastating power from Wilder for the last I don’t know how many fights, or just that devastating demeanour, almost, where he goes into the ring and feels like ‘you know what, I can conquer any man in there’.
“So yeah, I would say Chisora, for me.”
Wilder-Chisora will take place on Saturday, April 4, as the first card of Misfits Pro, a new promotional firm ran by influencer KSI, Mams Taylor and the Sauerland brothers. Boxing News understands that British cruiserweight champion Viddal Riley will compete in the co-main event, expected to collide with EBU titleholder Mateusz Masternak.
It will also be a co-promotion with Queensberry, with any doubts over the bout taking place resolved after Frank Warren initially stated he had a contract with ‘Del Boy’ for his next fight.
Wardley, who himself was briefly linked with a fight against Chisora, is expected to announce his first title defence in the coming weeks.
