WBA world super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg insists he is not concerned about any comparisons that may be drawn to Carl Frampton when he fights Kiko Martinez next weekend.
Frampton has beaten Martinez twice, stopping him in 2013 before taking his IBF world title in September on points.
Quigg defends his own world title against the Spaniard on July 18 in Manchester, but claims the only person he wants to impress is himself.
“It’s not about proving anything to anyone else, I just want to put in the best performance and beat him in emphatic style,” he told Boxing News.
“People will compare myself with Frampton, but I just want to put in the best performance of my career.
“That’s what I expect from myself, not to prove to anybody else, but I know if I satisfy myself with the performance, I’m the hardest person to please, so if I’m happy with it I know everyone else will be.”
The Bury man concedes that negative feedback will always come, but also believes he can better the performances of other Kiko conquerors.
“I could knock Martinez out in a round and I’d still get people disregarding the result, you’re always going to get critics,” the 26-year-old opined.
“The way I’ve trained and the way I live my life, I expect to go out there and put in the best performance and beat him better than anyone else has.
“I’m just looking forward to fight night and proving why I believe I’m the best super-bantamweight on the planet.”
Martinez, 29, trains under Antonio Matías alongside Gabriel Campillo and Luciano Cuello, and revealed he was originally preparing for a different fight.
“We were training for a fight against Juan Carlos Payano (WBA bantamweight champion), but when my team told me about fighting Scott I had no doubts,” he said.
“My team obtained the chance to fought for the world title and I could not let it go. I am very grateful to Maravillabox Promotions, they are the best.”
