EXCLUSIVE Amir Khan: I would beat Manny Pacquiao because I’ve improved and he’s stayed the same

AMIR KHAN will be watching Saturday night’s bout between former Wild Card Gym stablemate Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri with interest, hoping one day he will meet the Filipino in a competitive ring.

Khan, presently Stateside and in training for his December 13 bout with Devon Alexander in Las Vegas, wants to fight Floyd Mayweather next year but is also interested in a clash with Pacquiao.

“Yeah, I will be watching,” he said of this weekend’s bout in Macau. “I’m a boxing fan as well as a fighter and I love those type of fights. I think it will be a good one. I’ve been watching the highlights of both of them, I’ve been watching Algieri and he’s very confident and Manny is very confident. It’s going to be a good one. Obviously I’m going to say Manny Pacquiao [will win], he’s a better, more experienced fighter. Algieri is a little green but he might have Manny’s number. You never know.”

Pacquiao this week said he would consider fighting Khan in London, though his trainer – and Khan’s former coach – Freddie Roach said it was unlikely. He even said Pacquiao had knocked Khan out in their sparring sessions several years ago.

“Pacquiao, he’s a great fighter but that’s a good fight for me,” said Khan, who added that he felt Mayweather was showing signs of decline. “We trained together before and we know each other quite well but I’ve improved as a fighter whereas Pacquiao has probably just stayed there. He’s still a good fighter but he hasn’t improved much. He’s done what he’s done, really. So those fights [Mayweather and Pacquiao] are going to be good ones for me.”
