The main card has been officially announced for the iVB boxing event that is set to take place in San Francisco this summer, featuring a world title bout as the headline attraction.
It was announced earlier this year that Ed Pereira was set to stage an event at San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza on July 11, attempting to break the world record for the largest boxing audience in history.
The current world record stands at 135,132 fans for a fight between Tony Zale and Billy Pryor at Juneau Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin back in August 1941, and now over 80 years later the iVB are looking to surpass that total.
In the main event, the WBO flyweight title will be on the line as Anthony Olascuaga defends his belt against Andy Dominguez, while other fights on the card include Vito Mielnicki Jr vs. Gerardo Luis Vergara, Charly Suarez vs. Manuel Avila, and Gurgen Hovhannisyan vs. Uila Mauʻu.
Well-respected boxing figure Sampson Lewkowicz will be the lead promoter for the event alongside iVB CEO Pereira, and Pereira is promising a night to remember this summer.
“This will be a show like the boxing world has never seen before. An event built for this city and its communities. San Francisco has always been a city that stands for something special, and on July 11, it will stand at the centre of the boxing world.”
The event in July is set to be broadcast live on YouTube, with more announcements surrounding the card expected in the coming weeks.
