Conor Benn’s decision to sign with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing rather than stick with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom has rocked the sport. Chris Eubank Jr – who shared the ring with Benn twice last year – has weighed in with a very on-brand assessment.
Benn announced his partnership with White on Friday, blindsiding fans and analysts. His relationship with Hearn was previously thought to be impenetrable, having started from his professional debut back in 2016 and survived such rough patches as his extremely public failing doping tests – a period Hearn supported him through unequivocally.
When cleared to fight on British soil, Benn and Hearn quickly set about rearranging the cancelled Eubank fight. What followed was two huge shows at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, elevating the young Brit’s star power, particularly when he avenged defeat in the rematch. All signs since had pointed to the promoter and fighter making big plans for the future, but instead Benn has signed a deal – one fight, eight figures, as reported by Chris Mannix – with White, who is quickly becoming a bitter rival of Hearn’s only four shows in to his boxing promotional run.
Speaking on X, Eubank revelled in the news.
“Edddieeee how you feeling buddy?”
“So, Eddie Hearn’s #1 fighter has now left him. Eddie stuck by Conor Benn through thick and thin, getting him off of drug charges and giving him money to live when he had nothing. I guess this really shows just how much of a scumbag Hearn actually is… he saves his fighters life and career and Conor still doesn’t want to be involved with him. Or is Benn the scumbag for dumping the man that built him? This really is a conundrum. Scumbag on scumbag violence at its finest… don’t say I didn’t tell you guys.”
Eubank also shared a video clip of Hearn’s reaction, saying:
“Wow Eddie Hearn you saved this man’s life and his career and he still wouldn’t even give you a phone call!? I knew you were a piece of s*** but Conor must of seen you do some really bad things to not even allow you one call. And Conor, for whatever reason you stabbed this idiot in the back (he’s an idiot for thinking he could trust you) just know what goes around always comes back around… you will get yours too.”
Wow @EddieHearn you saved this man’s life & his career & he still wouldn’t even give you a phone call!? 😭🤦🏽♂️I knew you were a piece of s*** but Conor must of seen you do some really bad things to not even allow you one call. & @ConorNigel for whatever reason you stabbed this… pic.twitter.com/sfRITXh5bS
