Chris Eubank Jr has been launched into yet another legal battle, this time due to his accusations against Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and the British Boxing Board of Control.
It was in September, at the launch press conference for his rematch with Conor Benn this Saturday, that the 36-year-old targeted the two organisations.
For the first fight in April, the Brighton man not only attempted to meet the agreed 160lbs limit, which he missed by a whisker, but also kept below the second-day rehydration cap of 170lbs.
As a result of the weight stipulations, and indeed his gruelling 12-round win over Benn, Eubank was then hospitalised for two days due to severe dehydration.
During the press conference, Eubank alleged that Matchroom was responsible for delaying his ambulance, which transported him to Royal London Hospital after he unanimously outpointed Benn in April.
“Those b******s [Matchroom] blocked the ambulance for 20 minutes, not letting it leave the stadium. If it had been a serious injury, those 20 minutes could have been the difference between life and death.”
Hearn swiftly rejected any such accusations, while adding that all medical-related events on fight night are logged by paramedics, with data then being passed over to the Board.
Last week, however, Eubank doubled down on his claims by posting a 10-second social media clip of his ambulance attempting to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April.
But while that does prove part of his story to be true – as in, that he was not immediately taken to hospital – the video offers little evidence for what he estimates to have been a 20-minute delay. In light of the footage, there has been calls for the venue to release a statement in response.
Boxing Scene now reports that both Matchroom and the BBBoC have initiated legal proceedings against Eubank.
