Eddie Hearn targets final eliminator for O’Shaquie Foster’s WBC title
O'Shaquie Foster

ACCORDING to Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, the mandatory challenger for WBC world super-featherweight champion O’Shaquie Foster will soon become clear.

Foster, 23-3 (12 KOs), claimed his green and gold strap, before losing it in his third defence, with a unanimous decision victory over Rey Vargas back in 2023.

Then, following a split decision defeat to Robson Conceicao last year, ‘Ice Water’ regained his belt after outpointing the Brazilian just under four months later.

But with the 31-year-old now earning himself a voluntary defence, WBC featherweight titlist Stephen Fulton has emerged as a likely opponent for the talented technician.

The possible matchup, according to veteran promoter Tom Brown, is already being discussed, with the TGB Promotions boss having seemingly initiated talks with Top Rank, Foster’s promoter.

At the same time, though, Hearn told Boxing News last week that a final eliminator for the American’s WBC title is also on the table.

As it happens, Eduardo Hernandez, who suffered a 12th-round stoppage defeat to Foster in 2023, is set to take on former featherweight champion Mark Magsayo.

Despite losing to Foster, Hernandez, 37-2 (32 KOs), gave a titanic effort, utilising his aggression on the inside, before getting halted in the final round.

Magsayo, 27-2 (18 KOs), meanwhile, has amassed three victories against limited opposition since his back-to-back losses against Vargas and Brandon Figueroa, both of which followed his career-best win over Gary Russell Jr in 2022.

In any case, the 29-year-old’s intriguing super-featherweight clash with Hernandez appears likely, with Hearn having reached out to PBC, Magsayo’s promoter, in a bid to make it happen.
