Eddie Hearn says Justis Huni will face British heavyweight star this year

MOSES Itauma and Justis Huni will clash for the WBO interim heavyweight title in 2025, according to promoter Eddie Hearn.

Huni moved to, 12-0 (7 KOs), with a second-round knockout of Shaun Potgieter at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Wednesday.

Huni was in action on January 8.

He is already in the top five with the WBO and is on a fast track towards world title opportunities.

And now Hearn says a showdown with an even younger heavyweight prospect is in the offing for as early as this year.

Moses Itauma, 20, has until May to break Mike Tyson’s record as the youngest world heavyweight champion, although the prospect of achieving that feat now seems unlikely.

Daniel Dubois is the current IBF champion, and faces Joseph Parker in Riyadh on February 22. The other three belts are still held by Oleksandr Usyk, following his victory over Tyson Fury last month.

But Hearn says a clash for the interim WBO belt between Huni and Itauma, 11-0 (9 KOs), could take place once the Australian has recovered from an elbow injury.

Hearn said: “He needs a bit of work on his elbow so he will be out for three or four months.

“People keep talking about the possibility of a fight with Moses Itauma for the WBO interim title. I think it will make its way into the fold before the end of the year

“It’s a really exciting match-up. I think Justis is going to be very exciting.”
