Eddie Hearn on Tyson Fury comeback

Hearn insists signing with Matchroom would offer Tyson Fury a route to Tony Bellew and ultimately Anthony Joshua

12th March, 2018

FORMER world heavyweight titlist Tyson Fury could carve out a route to Anthony Joshua, the reigning, unified heavyweight champion. Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, would welcome Fury into the Matchroom stable and believes that would offer him the clearest path to some of the biggest fights in the sport.

“There’s been a lot of rumours that he’s going to be joining up with us. That’s not true as far as I know. We’re not close to any kind of agreement,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “We’ve had some conversations, as I think he’s talking to everybody right now.

“We’ll see.”

He believes he could offer Fury a clear route to some of the biggest fights in the sport.

Hearn said, “Of course if he comes with us, it’s a very straightforward road to a lot of big heavyweight fights. Of course, Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte, Tony Bellew, some big Box Office pay-per-view fights for him and ultimately the grand prize of Joshua because that is a huge fight.”

He added, “It all depends on what level he wants to come back at. I think having been out of the ring so long, he needs to come back at a reasonable level to develop and prepare for those big fights. I’d be more than happy to welcome him to the team. As far as I’m concerned, this will be the best place for him. Tyson is his own man. He’s a lot more switched on than he may appear.”
