Conor Benn has failed to impress since leaving promoter Eddie Hearn earlier this year, most recently falling well short in a challenge for world honours on Saturday night.

Now, Hearn has answered whether he believes his former fighter is capable of ever capturing a world title.

Benn ditched his career-long promoter at the beginning of the year in favour of a lucrative switch to Zuffa Boxing – a newly-established player in the sport, headed by UFC President Dana White.

In his first outing following the move, Benn was tasked with a wounded Regis Prograis, who stepped through the ropes carrying a multitude of injuries but still managed to take the Briton the full 10-round distance, with Benn claiming an underwhelming decision victory on the scorecards.

Then, last Saturday, Benn stepped up in levels and attempted to dethrone WBC welterweight world champion, Ryan Garcia, but was ultimately overmatched and outclassed as the Californian required just two rounds to close the show and hand Benn a first stoppage defeat.

Speaking with iFL TV, Hearn recongised Benn as a ‘good fighter’ but he does not envisage ‘The Destroyer’ ever getting his hands on a world title.

“Is he world class? I think what we found out is no, he’s not, but it doesn’t mean he’s not a good fighter. I just don’t think he’s good enough to win a world title or a fight at that level, particularly at a weight class that is not suited to him.”

Benn is expected to move up in weight following the humbling defeat and the 29-year-old has already been offered another world title shot in a new weight division.
