Eddie Hearn delivers on promise to Jake Wyllie

EDDIE Hearn has seemingly stayed true to his word, presenting fan-friendly operator Jake Wyllie with another main event slot for only his second Matchroom Boxing gig.

The 25-year-old gave a titanic effort, only to then drop a 12-round unanimous decision in his hastily-made showdown with George Kambosos Jr earlier this year.

Despite taking the fight on short notice, Wyllie, 17-2 (16 KOs), proved in March, albeit against a somewhat faded Kambosos, that he possesses firepower in both first and a sizable set of stones.

Because of that, Matchroom boss Hearn insisted moments after their enthralling encounter that the Australian could expect a contract to arrive through his letter box.

And now, instead of being hung out to dry, it would appear that Wyllie is set to ignite what he hopes will be a long-term relationship with the British promoter.

Before getting too carried away, though, the super-lightweight contender must first take care of business against Youssef Dib, the younger brother of former world champion Billy Dib, on August 23.

It was announced earlier this morning that the pair will headline a card at the Fortitude Music Hall, Queensland, in what promises to be an all-action summer sizzler.

Dib, 21-3 (18 KOs), finds himself coming off back-to-back defeats – the first, via an eighth-round stoppage, and the second, a points loss where he twice touched the canvas – against former world title challenger Liam Wilson.

But despite his poor run of form, the 32-year-old gave a gallant account of himself on both occasions and, in doing so, has earned himself another desirable opportunity.

Wyllie, meanwhile, will likely have one eye on a potential clash with Liam Paro, representing another all-Australian matchup, should he get past Dib.
