Eddie Hearn bolsters heavyweight stable with Cuban puncher Lenier Pero

HARD-HITTING Olympian Lenier Pero looks to elevate his professional career after inking a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

As of now, Frank Warren unquestionably boasts the strongest and deepest heavyweight stable, with the likes of Daniel Dubois, Joseph Parker and Agit Kabayel, just to name a few, all fighting under his Queensberry Promotions banner.

But while Hearn may not possess the same firepower in the land of the giants, unbeaten Cuban Pero, 11-0 (8 KOs), nonetheless finds himself in a far more favourable position after linking up with Matchroom.

After shining brightly at multiple national and international amateur tournaments, ‘El Justiciero’ was then finally presented with a shot at Olympic glory in 2016.

Yet despite securing a unanimous decision victory over sturdy campaigner Guido Vianello, Pero was ultimately sent crashing out of the quarterfinals in Rio, Brazil, after suffering a second-round stoppage defeat to Filip Hrgovic.

Nevertheless, the 32-year-old has proven to be a promising addition to the heavyweight scene as a professional, always taking a measured approach to his fights while, at the same time, possessing the power to halt each opponent at any given moment.

For instance, towering bruiser Donnie Palmer, who is perhaps best known for getting blasted out inside a round by Joe Joyce, met an almost identical fate in Pero’s last outing.

Regarding his next assignment, meanwhile, Pero is scheduled to face Detrailous Webster on April 18, appearing on a Boxlab Promotions show in Orlando, Florida.

Along with Matchroom, co-promoter Boxlab is determined to guide the talented southpaw’s career towards world honours.
