Daniel Dubois has revealed the real reason behind his return to trainer Don Charles.
Dubois and Charles have reunited just a few months after the pair split following the defeat to Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium in July 2024.
‘DDD’ had linked up with trainer Tony Sims late last year, but they have parted ways without ever having a fight together, and the former IBF heavyweight champion has explained to Talksport why he has made the decision to partner with Charles again.
“I had a family meeting and just thought because we’ve had the most success with Don, we decided to do that U-turn.
“I feel like he knows me. He knows me as a fighter and as a person. So it just makes sense to go back. And we’ve had our little break. Now I’m ready to get back to it.”
Dubois was then asked why he chose to split with Charles in the first place.
“Everyone needed to go away and think about things really. It wasn’t even a deep thought. I think we just [had] a quick rash decision.
“As the person I am and the character I am, Don is going to be right for me. He’s the right guy and I’m glad we’ve made that decision now. It’s time to move forward with it. He will help me, I will help myself and get back to the glory days. That’s what I really want to do.”
Dubois is expected to return to action in the first quarter of 2026, with Zhilei Zhang one of the names that is reported to be in the running to take on the Brit.
