DOMINIC WADE insist he will ‘spoil’ Gennady Golovkin’s plan of fighting Canelo Alvarez by stunning the Kazakh wrecking ball tomorrow night [April 23].
The unbeaten American is a massive underdog ahead of his mandated challenge for Golovkin’s IBF and WBA world middleweight titles at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
Should Golovkin win, the plan is for him to face WBC champion Alvarez – provided he beats Amir Khan on May 7 – but Wade intends to throw a spanner in the works.
“The given fact that most people underestimate me, extra motivates me towards victory this Saturday,” he said.
“I just don’t care what people are talking about Golovkin’s future, I will be spoiling those plans, and I will be the one who fights Canelo.
“Nobody thinks I can win. There aren’t that many people out there, aware of just what I can do inside the ring.”
The only notable win on Wade’s record is a narrow 10-round decision over IBF champ Sam Soliman last June. The 26-year-old was granted his shot at ‘GGG’ after original IBF mandatory Tureano Johnson picked up an injury.
Golovkin meanwhile is one of the most dominant fighters on the planet and currently enjoying a 21 stoppage streak – as well as holding the highest KO percentage in middleweight championship history.
Despite the daunting task ahead of him, Wade remains bullish.
“I’m ready for this, people ask if I’m nervous, not at all. I’ve been a fighter all my life, always wanted to be a world champion. When this opportunity came up I was so excited I could have run 30 miles,” he said.
“I know how good Gennady is but I’ll be ready on April 23 to be victorious and show the world who the best middleweight is.
“I see flaws in his game that I can take advantage of. He’s very strong but also very basic in some ways.”
