Dmitry Bivol returns to action this evening in Russia, defending his WBA and IBF light-heavyweight world titles against mandatory challenger Michael Eifert in his first outing since defeating Artur Beterbiev in their February 2025 rematch.

The 35-year-old enters as a heavy favourite, having established himself as one of boxing’s most technically accomplished champions through victories over Artur Beterbiev, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gilberto Ramirez. After more than a year out of the ring, a period that included surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back, he will be looking to make a statement.

Eifert, meanwhile, arrives as a sizeable underdog but has waited more than three years for this opportunity after earning his position with an upset victory over former world champion Jean Pascal in an IBF eliminator.

Tonight, Bivol defends two of the three major belts he currently holds at 175lbs after the WBO opted not to sanction the contest due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. He nevertheless remains the organisation’s champion.

Should Bivol come through as expected, attention will quickly turn towards either a trilogy bout with Beterbiev or a potential undisputed clash with WBC champion David Benavidez, though mandatory challenger Callum Smith could yet complicate those plans.

Bivol UD. Dominant from the Russian unified champion, who simply does not make anywhere near enough mistakes for a fighter of Eifert’s level to capitalise. A clean sweep after a knockdown in the first; the only possible criticism could be that he did not go through the gears to push for a stoppage early enough, and Eifert was intent on hanging in there by the end. All three cards read 118-107.
