Brixton heavyweight Dillian Whyte may have missed out on fights against world champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder but will, on July 20 at London’s O2 Arena, console himself with a fascinating matchup against Colombian Oscar Rivas.
Thirty-one-year-old Rivas is based in Montreal, Canada and has won 26 straight fights since turning professional in August 2008. The standout names on his record are few and far between but a 12th round knockout of former world heavyweight title challenger Bryant Jennings in January earmarked Rivas as a contender to keep an eye on and put him well and truly in the title picture.
Whyte, meanwhile, has been there or thereabouts for some time now and has won nine in a row since losing to bitter rival Anthony Joshua in December 2015. Among his victims are Dereck Chisora (twice), Lucas Browne and former WBO titleholder Joseph Parker.
