FRAZER Clarke has doubled down on his desire to capture the British heavyweight title while, in equal measure, welcoming a possible clash with Dillian Whyte.
The Olympic bronze medallist returned to the win column last month, dispatching former Whyte, 31-3 (21 KOs), opponent Ebenezer Tetteh with a punishing first-round finish.
Before that, Clarke was forced to suffer an equally destructive yet more alarming stoppage defeat to Fabio Wardley, causing many to wonder whether he would bounce back.
His blemish arrived several months after the pair went toe-to-toe in a 12-round thriller which, following several pulse-pounding moments, resulted in a somewhat controversial draw last year.
Their rematch, however, ended in far more devastating fashion, with Clarke spending the night in hospital after finding himself on the receiving end of a vicious first-round onslaught.
But thankfully, the 33-year-old made a full recovery and has since expressed his interest in challenging for the Lonsdale Belt – currently held by David Adeleye – later this year.
Along with that, former world title challenge Whyte has been mentioned as a potential dance partner, with Clarke, meanwhile, remaining open to any meaningful matchups on the domestic scene.
While ‘Big Fraze’ closed the show in emphatic fashion, Whyte trudged towards an uninspiring seventh-round stoppage victory over Tetteh when they collided last December.
But regardless, ‘The Body Snatcher’ is set to return – against an opponent that is yet to be announced – on June 7, just a couple months after pulling out of his scheduled showdown against Joe Joyce with an injury.
For Clarke, Whyte certainly represents an appealing challenge while, at the same time, the winner of Adeleye and Jeamie TKV’s expected rematch could emerge as a more likely opponent later this year.
“[Whyte’s name has] been chucked around at me a few times in the last few weeks,” Clarke told Sky Sports. “It’s something I’m open to.
“[Whyte’s] not getting any younger; he could do with activity. I’m available, I’m fit and I’m ready. So if the phone ever goes for that fight, I’ll jump on it.
“There’s been a lot made of me and the winner of [Adeleye-TKV 2]. If that comes – fantastic. If not, there’s other huge domestic fights; Dillian Whyte just being one of them.”
