DILLIAN WHYTE’S British heavyweight title defence against Dereck Chisora this weekend could be called off by the British Boxing Board of Control after the challenger threw a table during their press conference yesterday.
Enraged by comments Whyte had made, Chisora lifted a table above his head and threw it at Dillian, sparking a frenzy which required a heavy amount of security.
The Board will hold a meeting in Manchester later today to discuss the outcomes of the incident, with General Secretary Robert Smith telling Boxing News he was “disgusted” by the incident.
Though Smith would not speculate about the potential punishments that could be handed down, the Board have numerous options – including scrapping the fight altogether. Chisora has previously had his licence revoked by the Board following a public brawl with David Haye in 2012 – though it was since reinstated.
After Whyte and Chisora clashed during the filming of a Sky Sports promotional programme, the Board requested that no more head to heads be allowed between the pair before fight night. They were placed at opposite ends of the top table yesterday.
If the fight still goes ahead it has already been confirmed that the warring Londoners will weigh in separately tomorrow with no head to head.
