DEVIN Haney’s next opponent, regardless of who it may be, must be signed up for year-round testing with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA).
The 26-year-old staged an open workout at the iconic Peacock Gym in London, England, yesterday afternoon, treating his British fans to a brief but blistering display on the pads.
During his visit to the UK, Haney told Boxing News that he will also be meeting with boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh to discuss his next fight.
Without naming an opponent, it seems that the former undisputed lightweight king is keen to appear on a Riyadh Season card while also exploring an offer from BLK Prime to return in March.
In any case, Haney has made it abundantly clear that his future opponents must all be signed up for VADA’s 24/7/365 testing program.
The American joined the program at the beginning of this year, subjecting himself to random drug testing, both in and out of competition, until January 2026.
This decision was made after it emerged that Ryan Garcia, whose victory over Haney was overturned to a no-contest, had failed two drug tests ahead of their clash last April.
Sure enough, Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, has doubled down on the team’s desire for a clean sport, insisting that the likes of WBO super lightweight titlist Teofimo Lopez and Garcia should follow suit.
“It lets Teofimo and Ryan know that, anyone who wants to fight Devin Haney: sign up to [VADA’s year-round testing program] if you’re really serious,” Bill told Boxing News.
“Let the people know that you really are a clean athlete, otherwise you might be eating that other kind of beef we’ve been hearing about.”
Along with his father, Haney works closely with Victor Conte, a drug testing expert and strength and conditioning specialist, when preparing for his fights.
Conte previously facilitated doping programs involving various high-profile athletes but is now determined to bolster boxing’s battle against the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
“Victor Conte is someone who’s been controversial but, at the same time, he’s absolutely needed in this sport,” Bill added.
“He’s the one who’s been pioneering for clean boxing. He knows that the sport needs to have random testing.”
