Devin Haney has been out of the ring since late last year, but recent social media activity suggests that he will soon return.

‘The Dream’ beat Brian Norman Jr for the WBO welterweight world title in November 2025 to become a three-weight world champion.

However, as seems so common with the sport’s top stars today, inactivity followed the impressive performance. After the passing of his mother recently, Haney seems ready to return to the ring.

As fans patiently wait for big bouts in and around 147lbs to be announced, the 27-year-old has now shared a video on Instagram that shows him facing off with Shakur Stevenson, teasing the fight that many thought had fallen apart.

Both men are currently in the market for opponents and had engaged in a public back-and-forth that appeared to be heading towards serious talks.

Stevenson, having only had one fight at 140lbs and likely still able to make 135lbs comfortably, demanded a 144lbs catchweight. Haney initially refused, looking to remain as a fully fledged welterweight. Team Haney then appeared to accept the condition, but both parties publicly went quiet on the match-up and appeared to be looking elsewhere.

Stevenson was linked with a since-dismissed clash with Manny Pacquiao and is now targeting a super-lightweight unification against Gary Antuanne Russell, building on his stellar win over Teofimo Lopez earlier this year.

Haney, meanwhile, was ordered to face Keyshawn Davis, but the latter appears to have opted to not take his mandatory challenge and instead face Richardson Hitchins. Haney was then linked with a unification against IBF welterweight champion Liam Paro, and will also have eyes on both Teofimo Lopez and Ryan Garcia, the division’s other beltholders.

Fans will be sceptical that this latest post on Instagram leads to anything serious, but it is clear that both Stevenson and Haney need to announce their next moves soon – regardless of whether it includes each other.
