Devin Haney-Ryan Garcia rematch in play for this Autumn

Devin Haney-Ryan Garcia rematch in play for this Autumn
Garcia (L) v Haney (R) back in April 2024.

TURKI ALALSHIKH is showing no signs of stopping with a second deal this week seemingly agreed for one of the biggest fights in boxing.

After personally announcing from his own X account that the Chris Eubank Jr-Conor Benn fight is officially on another fight with a controversial back story looks to have been secured as well.

In the early hours of Thursday morning (UK time) Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, posted a picture of Ryan Garcia signing a document. Above the picture Alalshikh wrote, “The deal is done… The opponent is set… Big news coming soon… Lets get boxing great again.”

Garcia, 24-1 (20 KOs), is currently serving a boxing ban which runs until April 20 after testing positive for a banned substance following his win over Devin Haney, 31-0 (15 KOs), in April 2024. Garcia originally won on points but the result was overturned to a No Contest.

Haney, the former undisputed lightweight champion, was in London recently and told Boxing Newsabout the purpose of his visit. “I’m here to meet with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh to see if we can make something happen.”

Veteran boxing reporter Dan Rafael posted on X last night that according to a source Haney and Garcia were working on a deal with Alalshikh. The deal would include the two men fighting in separate bouts this Spring before their rematch taking place in the Autumn.

During his interview with BN Haney declared he was on board for another fight against Garcia but the 26-year-old must prove himself to be a clean athlete.

“That’s the only way that a rematch could happen,” Haney said. “That’s a fight I would love to make in 2025. Maybe we can make it but I just want it to be on an even playing field.”
