Devin Haney’s next fight ‘signed, sealed and delivered’: “I’m going to end him”

Devin Haney looks set for a welterweight unification fight on May 30 in Brooklyn, according to updates from both sides.

The former undisputed lightweight world champion stuck around at super-lightweight for just one fight – a world title win over Regis Prograis – before beating Jose Ramirez at a catchweight in preparations for his debut at 147lbs.

Then, in November last year, Haney became a three-division world champion, beating Brian Norman Jr to win the WBO welterweight world title.

Now considered the top dog in one of boxing’s most exciting divisions, if Haney is to continue belt collecting he had three options – unifications with the IBF’s Lewis Crocker, the WBA’s Rolando Romero or a grudge rematch against newly crowned WBC champ, Ryan Garcia.

It is Romero who has seemingly stepped up to the plate, following weeks of back and forth. ‘Rolly’ took to social media this week to announce that his end of the deal is now complete.

“No more ball back in this court or that court. I’m signed sealed and delivered. Big boy deal. The Haneys have always been soft and full of lies. I’m going to end y’all for good.”

His words were accompanied by a video mocking Haney’s power.

Pro Box TV reports that Bill Haney, father and trainer to Devin, has confirmed that the fight will go ahead at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on May 30, pending an official announcement.

Romero won the WBA regular title with an upset with over Garcia in May last year, and was upgraded to full champion when Jaron Ennis vacated the belt to move up.
