Devin Haney delivered one of the standout displays of 2025 to become a three-division world champion, and the undefeated American has now been called out by one of his fellow 147lb titleholders for an intriguing unification clash.
Having ruled at both lightweight and super-lightweight, Haney moved up to welterweight to take on the unbeaten WBO champion Brian Norman Jr., who was defeated with relative ease despite many fans believing the contest to be a 50/50 affair beforehand.
Now, ‘The Dream’ will hope to become a multi-division undisputed champion, having previously completed the feat as a lightweight, as he eyes up a grudge match rematch with Ryan Garcia, who challenges for the WBC crown next month, pending an official announcement. He also has eyes on WBA champ Rolando Romero, and the IBF strap currently held by Lewis Crocker.
Speaking with Ring Magazine, Crocker called for a scrap with Haney to become a unified titlist.
“Absolutely, [Devin Haney is my number one target]. Haney is on the pound-for-pound list, multiple weight world champion, he is the biggest name and it’s good that he’s interested in the fight and that he’s willing.”
“At the end of the day, champions should be fighting the champions, especially for ourselves and the fans.”
Crocker recently announced his split from trainer Billy Nelson, despite the Scotsman guiding Crocker to world honours last year. The Belfast-born operator has appointed Huzaifah Iqbal as his new lead cornerman, and Iqbal spoke with confidence ahead of a potential fight with Haney.
“It’s what he wants, it’s what he is after, it definitely suits. I love a technical showdown, genuinely, and any fight has to be one that Lewis is up for. Lewis is up for any fight, genuinely,
“I’ve spent those car journeys with him where we have been talking [of potential opponents] and he is up for anything, but I would love that [Devin Haney fight] and I know that he would love that.”
Crocker had also been linked to a voluntary defence of his titles and rematch against Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker, whom he controversially defeated in 2024, but the IBF yesterday declined this request.
Instead, the Ulsterman has been ordered to defend his belt against Australia’s former super-lightweight world champion and current IBF mandatory challenger, Liam Paro.
