Oleksandr Usyk has looked unbeatable in recent fights, universally recognised as the heavyweight division’s number one, with possible threats few and far between. However, former opponent Derek Chisora believes that there is one man who will soon end the Ukrainian’s reign.
Usyk has announced that he has three fights left in the sport, beginning with this weekend’s title defence against Dutch kickboxing star, Rico Verhoeven, who boasts a professional boxing record of just 1-0.
In the outings that follow, fans are keen to see Usyk take on those he hasn’t yet faced, with WBC mandatory challenger, Agit Kabayel, and 21-year-old wunderkind, Moses Itauma, sticking out as the Ukrainian’s toughest potential opponents.
Although, in an interview with talkSPORT Boxing, Chisora believes Usyk is on the verge of his first defeat as a professional, predicting Verhoeven to get the better of him this weekend.
“I think that Usyk loses this fight in Egypt, I am telling you.”
“I am not trying to get a rise, I am telling you, he is going to beat Usyk.”
“All I am saying is that the kickboxer is going to win, then we are going to see a rematch and by the time [that Agit Kabayel] gets his shot at the title, he will be 45 [years old].”
If Chisora’s unlikely prediction came true, it would rank among the biggest upsets in the sport’s history and would almost certainly lead to a rematch between the two.
