Derek Chisora makes emphatic prediction for Usyk vs Moses Itauma: “He’d blow the smoke out of him”

Derek Chisora has given his opinion on how a potential heavyweight showdown between Oleksandr Usyk and Moses Itauma would play out.

Incredibly, despite having only fought 13 times and boxed just 26 rounds Itauma has been linked to a fight against the current undisputed heavyweight champion. The 20-year-old southpaw has blitzed through his opponents so far including former world title challenger Dillian Whyte who lasted less than three minutes against the heavyweight phenom in August.

Itauma’s blend of speed, skill and power have many believing him to be a generational talent and the man who can dominate the heavyweight division in years to come.

Chisora, meanwhile, is at the other end of the spectrum and could fight for the 50th and final time next month. The 41-year-old has faced Vitali Klitschko, Tyson Fury and in 2020 fought Oleksandr Usyk, 24-0 (15 KOs), as the Ukrainian dipped his toes into the division for a second time having won the undisputed cruiserweight crown.

An inspired Chisora, 36-13 (23 KOs), gave Usyk a hard night’s work and despite losing on points emerged with great credit and helped kick off a long Indian Summer for the Londoner. But how would the great Ukrainian cope with Itauma? Chisora pulled no punches when he gave his opinion to The Ring after Itauma’s win over Whyte in Riyadh.

“Usyk would blow the smoke out of him. Usyk would kill him.”

Itauma, 13-0 (11 KOs), was expected to return on the same December 13 card as Chisora in Manchester but it now looks likely that the WBA number one contender won’t be back until 2026.
