Derek Chisora believes his fellow heavyweight veteran, Filip Hrgovic, is capable of pulling off a considerable upset against Moses Itauma.

The pair will collide at London’s O2 Arena this evening, with Itauma bidding to become the youngest world heavyweight champion since Mike Tyson dethroned Trevor Berbick in 1986.

Standing in his way of claiming the vacant IBF title, however, is the vastly experienced Hrgovic, whose only defeat came against Daniel Dubois in 2024.

Even then, the Croatian gave a tremendous effort and was enjoying no shortage of success, only to be stopped in round eight after sustaining cuts over both eyes.

Hrgovic also encountered genuine adversity against Zhilei Zhang, who many believe should have won their 2022 encounter, whereas Itauma has hardly even been hit cleanly by an opponent.

And, indeed, the 21-year-old remains unbeaten across the professional and amateur codes, albeit without having faced a heavyweight quite like Hrgovic.

But while Itauma has nonetheless been made a sizable favourite against the 34-year-old, Chisora has told The Sun Sport that he does not envision a clear victory for either man.

“It’s going to be a cracking fight. Moses is going to come in shape; Hrgovic is going to come in shape. This is not a one-way fight … They’re going to go through something they’ve never [been] through. I can’t call it.”

Regardless of who emerges victorious, the winner must face mandatory challenger Frank Sanchez in his next outing.

And with ‘The Cuban Flash’ coming off a second-round finish over Richard Torrez Jr in May, some are already viewing him as a more dangerous opponent for Itauma than Hrgovic.
