Gervonta Davis has made it known whether or not he plans to lace up a pair of gloves again.

At the start of 2025, Davis was widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet, having put together an unbeaten record of 30-0, and becoming a three-weight world champion with wins over fighters such as Ryan Garcia, Mario Barrios and Rolly Romero.

The past 12 months have been difficult for ‘Tank’ though, with his WBA lightweight title defence against Lamont Roach back in March ending in a controversial majority decision draw, showing there were chinks in his armour.

Many fans expected a rematch with Roach to come next, but Davis instead opted to sign for an exhibition bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, leading to further criticism from the boxing world.

The bout never took place, after Davis was named in a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations, leading Paul to cancel the fight and leaving the future of ‘Tank’ up in the air.

That is because last year Davis had stated that he planned to retire at the end of 2025.

“2025, [end of] next year, I’m out of it. I’m out of the sport.”

With that date now upon us, fans have began to speculate that the Baltimore man may never return. ‘Tank’ has now cleared up the speculation by posting on social media that he intends to fight on is targeting a bout against current WBC interim super-lightweight champion Issac Cruz.

ā€œI’m taking him next, soon as my knee gets better.ā€

Davis has previously fought Cruz, earning a unanimous decision victory when they met in December 2021, with the Mexican becoming the first fighter to take ‘Tank’ the full 12-round distance.

Cruz recently took on former Davis foe Roach, with that fight ending in a majority decision draw, potentially now paving the way for a rematch with ‘Tank.’
