DAVID HAYE performed a public workout today at Jubilee Place in Canary Wharf ahead of his bout against Arnold Gjergjaj on May 21. His light training session lasted far longer than Gjergjaj is expected to on Saturday. Once Haye had warmed up, he unleashed whipping left hooks and punched upwards with his hard right cross, as well as getting inside to drum uppercuts off the pads held by new trainer Shane McGuigan.

While Gjergjaj is a humble opponent, Haye declared that in 12 months he expects to be boxing for one of the major world titles. “A year is a reasonable amount of time, this time next year I will have a big fight,” he said. “I believe I can stay as a champion as long as it takes to prove to the world I’m number one.”

He would chose a shot at Anthony Joshua over Tyson Fury, saying, “I’d prefer definitely, if I could fight for the world title and pick who it would be, I’d prefer to fight Anthony Joshua.”

“He’s got a much bigger fanbase,” David said of Joshua, also noting Tyson’s condition. “Someone as unprofessional as that, I’d rather go with the guy that’s professional.”

He added, “I believe Tyson Fury is a lot easier to beat. He’s very loose, he’s been knocked down a number of times by guys that don’t punch very hard.”

David Haye takes on Arnold ‘The Cobra’ Gjerjaj at The O2 on May 21. Watch #HayeDay exclusively live and free-to-air from 8pm on Dave, for tickets visit theo2.co.uk.
