CHRIS EUBANK SR and Dave Coldwell engaged in a war of words at a press conference on Wednesday. Coldwell trains Tom Doran, who will challenge Eubank’s son for the British middleweight title on Saturday (June 25) at the O2 arena. Eubank pointedly asked Coldwell what his record as a boxer had been, to call into question his credentials as a trainer.

“I wasn’t expecting that at all. Out the blue,” Coldwell said. “It’s just so disrespectful. He’s got this superiority complex where he has to make everybody think he’s superior to every human being that walks the earth. At the end of the day, it has nothing to do with Saturday night, it has nothing to do with it. Him bringing up my pro record, what has that got to do with it?“

Coldwell, it should be noted, is the trainer of reigning WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew and WBA titlist Jamie McDonnell. “I hate it where people have to try and belittle people in front of everybody,” Dave said. “I told him myself. I used to look up to him as a fighter, now I think he’s a prick.

“He has to be the man. People aren’t looking at his son, people are looking at him because of him. He has to be the centre of attention, he has to be. It’s his ego.”
