David Adeleye entertains Jeamie TKV rematch following controversial stoppage

NEWLY-CROWNED British heavyweight champion David Adeleye is open to rematching Jeamie TKV after his sixth-round stoppage victory has been placed under the microscope.

The pair squared off at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England, last Saturday, with both looking to capture Fabio Wardley’s vacated Lonsdale Belt on the undercard of Joe Joyce vs Filip Hrgovic.

Five rounds of somewhat pedestrian action saw TVK, 8-2 (5 KOs), put his nose in front, simply by maintaining a marginally higher output to that of his opponent’s.

Adeleye, 14-1 (13 KOs), then landed a short left hook in the sixth frame to send the North Londoner crashing to the canvas, moments before following the attack up with a punishing onslaught.

That left hook, however, was only delivered after referee Ron Kearney called break, indicating that both fighters were safe to exit the clinch.

To make matters worse, Kearney also placed his hand on TVK’s glove before the 31-year-old had the opportunity to follow the golden rule of boxing: Protect yourself at all times.

The referee then waved their fight off soon after facilitating the controversial knockdown, leaving TKV’s corner stunned at the outcome of a contest where they had built a slight lead.

Adeleye, on the other hand, has largely dismissed any accusations over the legitimacy of his victory.

In his most recent Instagram post, the 28-year-old highlighted the fact that TKV had landed a hook out of the clinch in the second round of their clash.

But still, while also including a clip of his opponent throwing body shots prior to the sixth-round knockdown, Adeleye has nonetheless expressed his interest in an immediate rematch.

“The knockout was valid,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m aware of the comments [TKV’s] team made so I’m open to entertain a rematch. No need for questions, debate or confusion.”
