Dave Allen and Filip Hrgovic collide tonight in Doncaster in the latest Queensberry Promotions heavyweight main event.

For Allen, this is perhaps the biggest test of his long and unpredictable career. The fan favourite has promised the best version of himself after weighing in at his lightest in seven years, and will have the backing of a partisan home crowd as he attempts to produce what he has called one of the greatest upsets in British boxing history.

Hrgovic, meanwhile, arrives as the proven world-level operator. The Croatian has shared the ring with elite names including Daniel Dubois – his sole loss – and Zhilei Zhang, and knows that a convincing win tonight could move him into position for major fights against the likes of Moses Itauma or another shot at world honours. Calm, durable and technically sound, ‘El Animal’ will look to silence the crowd early and remind the heavyweight division exactly why he remains such a dangerous contender.

Dave Allen vs Filip Hrgovic fight result

Hrgovic TKO. Trainer Jamie Moore throws in the towel in the third after a steady, heavy onslaught from Hrgovic that began from the opening bell and was largely uninterrupted. Moore saves his man for another day, that must come at a lower level. Meanwhile, Hrgovic banks three dominant rounds and will be fresh enough to face Mose Itauma in August, should Queensberry make it happen, though a cut could disrupt those plans.

Undercard results

Michael Gomez Jr vs Lee McGregor – lightweight –
Louie O’Doherty vs Ahmed Hatim – lightweight – O’Doherty UD
Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev vs Alexis Nahuel Torres – welterweight – Muydinkhujaev PTS
