Filip Hrgovic made easy work of Dave Allen on Saturday night, dismissing the South-Yorkshireman within three rounds on away soil, and now Allen has shared his thoughts on the Croatian’s punch power.

Back in 2024, Hrgovic suffered the first defeat of his professional career, halted by Daniel Dubois despite a dominant start, with that loss ultimately costing Hrgovic the IBF world title, as ‘Triple D’ was elevated to champion soon after.

Since then, Hrgovic has continued to face Brits, scoring decision wins over both Joe Joyce and David Adeleye, before venturing to Doncaster and registering a first knockout win since 2023, as he quickly dispatched of Allen.

However, when evaluating the power of the Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist on social media, Allen declared that the volume and accuracy of Hrgovic’s shots are more troublesome than his punch power.

“He is not a massive puncher, he can punch, don’t get me wrong, because he is technically very good and he is a big fella. He is not a knockout puncher but he is very fast, sharp and accurate, and he hits you in some awkward places.

“He is not a ‘non-puncher’, but it is not like he will knock your lights out with one punch, but he is very, very good. He is not a ‘one-punch knockout artist’, if you know what I mean, I could stand up to them but there is that many of them [that it overwhelms you].

“That is the problem with him, he throws that many shots and he is very accurate.”

Hrgovic now finds himself back in world title contention, rated as the WBO’s #2 contender and ranked amongst the top eight heavyweights by all four recognised sanctioning bodies.
