British heavyweight veteran Dave Allen is poised to return to action next month, as he bids to bounce back from his October defeat. Now, ‘The White Rhino’ has revealed who will be in the opposing corner when he makes his ring return.
After knocking out Johnny Fisher last May, Allen was rewarded with a contract from Matchroom Boxing and a headliner on home soil against Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Although, despite a valiant attempt from Allen, it was the visitor who came out on top and claimed a well-deserved unanimous decision win, much to the disappointment of the raucous Sheffield crowd.
The 33-year-old will now attempt to get back to winning ways on the Leigh Wood vs. Josh Warrington rematch card in Nottingham, but with his fans set to flock to the Motorpoint Arena in their numbers, Allen took to his YouTube channel to warn that the opposition may underwhelm.
“My opponent, I think, is on the brink of being confirmed. I am boxing Karim Berredjem. Won 12 lost 10, French guy.
“Someone said to me the other day, ‘he is f***ing terrible him’. I said he is not bad; he’s not a world beater but neither am I. A comeback fight for Tyson Fury is different to a comeback fight for me.
“So, if people want to buy a ticket to watch me box, I am very grateful. If you don’t, because you feel like the opposition isn’t great, it’s your money and I understand, you have got to do what you have got to do,
“I have had a watch of him, he is big and awkward, and he should take me [through some] rounds.”
Berredjem has fought just six rounds since 2023, overcoming 74-fight journeyman Erik Nazaryan, who shared the ring with Roman Fury for the latter’s second pro fight. The 39-year-old has also boxed for the French heavyweight title on five occasions but came up short each time.
Allen-Berredjem will be joined on the undercard by a WBC super-lightweight world title scrap involving Sandy Ryan and Karla Ramos Zamora, as well as an intriguing British super-welterweight title showdown where champion Ishmael Davis takes on Bilal Fawaz.
