Darren O’Neill and Myles Casey claim victories for Ireland

THREE Irish boxers were in action today (June 16) at the European Games in Baku. Flyweight Myles Casey won the first bout of the first day, the first ever boxing contest at the European Games, with a unanimous decision over Belarus’ Ivan Fihurenka, sealing victory in the last round.

Team captain Darren O’Neill took a clear decision win over Romania’s Ionut Jitaru, winning every round for all the judges (indeed one official had the Olympian 10-8 in all three sessions).

Bantamweight Kurt Walker lost a split decision to Russia’s Baktovar Nazirov.

Adam Nolan and Michael O’Reilly are in action tomorrow for Ireland.
