IT’S almost routine to expect victory from Gennady Golovkin. The Kazakh is unbeaten in his 36 contests and has won most of them in devastating style while amassing the WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight titles.

But Danny Jacobs is no run of the mill challenger. He’s technically skilled, carries power of his own and to hear him speak he carries a quiet but firm sense of self-belief.

“This is the fight that I have always wanted. This is the pinnacle,” he said. “These guys are the best in the middleweight division.

“I’m going to have to shock the world and let them know I am the best.”

It’s remarkable that Jacobs is in this position. He survived cancer and it wasn’t thought he’d be able to box again. Now he is competing at the very summit of the division.

“When times get tough you have to take on those challenges,” he said. “If it was easy for anybody, then anybody could do it. It takes a special person to take on the toughest challenges in this world and overcome.

“If I’m 100% mentally, physically prepared there’s going to be a new undisputed middleweight champion of the world.”

“As long as you believe in yourself anything is possible,” he continued. “I look forward to challenging myself, I look forward to having a great camp.

“Team Jacobs, we have an amazing plan and I look forward to executing it.”
