AFTER winning the vacant IBF middleweight title and with his broadcast deal with HBO coming to an end, Danny Jacobs is in prime position take some of the biggest fights in the sport on any network.

“I would love him to get the Canelo [Alvarez] fight. It’s a fight that we nearly got in May,” Jacobs’ promoter Eddie Hearn said. “At this stage in his career I think that Canelo fight is the fight.

“I would love to see him fight Canelo in May.”

Alvarez will move up to super-middleweight to fight Rocky Fielding on December 15 at Madison Square Garden but he still holds the WBC and WBA middleweight titles. “Anything can happen, especially when you’re fighting a bigger man,” Jacobs said, although he does expect the Mexican to win. “I think Canelo is going for history trying to be a three division champion. So best of luck to him and come back on down to the middleweight division, let’s get this thing on.”

“Canelo don’t want to fight me at 168lbs. I’m a really big boy,” he added. “I’m comfortable moving up.”

The world title Jacobs now holds was stripped from Gennady Golovkin, who beat the New Yorker last year. A rematch is not out of the question. “Now there’s almost nowhere for him to go. From what I’m hearing if he doesn’t sign with DAZN, he’s not going to get any of those big fights that he truly wants. But we’ll see what happens. I’m in good hands right now. I’m in the best position of my career,” the American said. “Right now I think it’s the Daniel Jacobs show.”

“I’m glad I was able to give the fans a really good show and earn this IBF middleweight championship of the world,” he concludes. “Now I’ve got the reward so hopefully we can make these big fights in future.”
