Dana White teases eye-watering figure for Canelo-Crawford performance bonus

TURKI Alalshikh has seemingly agreed to reach even deeper into his pocket, doubling down on his desire to see no more Tom and Jerry-type fights.

The boxing paymaster took to social media earlier this month, insisting that any fighters refusing to engage in an all-action spectacle would not be welcome on his shows.

And since then, it would appear that Alalshikh has put the wheels in motion, wishing to incentivise the production of captivating displays with a hefty wad of cash.

A performance bonus is no revolutionary concept, though, as UFC president Dana White frequently rewards his more fan-friendly fighters through similar methods.

But now, it would appear that the flagship MMA promoter is eager to integrate much of the same strategies, particularly regarding the incentivisation of knockouts, into boxing.

White has, of course, previously announced his partnership alongside Alalshikh, with the pair hoping that their new promotion – created under the TKO banner – will take the boxing world by storm.

But before launching their much-anticipated league, the two power brokers have first agreed to work together on the upcoming clash between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

Their blockbuster event – headlined by the undisputed super-middleweight showdown – will take place at the Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, on September 13.

And while no undercard matchups have been announced, Alalshikh has made it clear that, after paying enormous sums for the main event, he would like to stack the show with a more affordable selection of prospects.

In any case, White revealed at yesterday’s press conference that the performance bonus for that card, which is to be streamed live on Netflix, will be upwards of six figures.

So while Canelo, 63-2-2 (39 KOs), and Crawford, 41-0 (31 KOs), are both certainly in the running to extend their lucrative purses, an undercard fighter could equally change their life with an awe-inspiring victory.
