DALTON SMITH hopes to be fighting in December but before then one of his biggest rivals faces the toughest test of his career.
Next month Adam Azim takes on Ohara Davies at the Copper Box in London and a win for Azim against the former world-rated ‘Two Tanks’ Davies would boost his record.
Azim had been European super-lightweight champion but vacated the title instead of facing mandatory challenger Smith which led to a backlash against Azim and his team. Smith told Boxing News he still hopes to fight for the now vacant EBU 140lbs belt against Jon Fernandez in December – a fight which had been originally scheduled for September 28 but was postponed when Smith withdrew due to injury.
Smith and Azim, however, are building a rivalry which will hopefully lead to a huge domestic clash in the future but for now they continue on their separate paths. In an interview with BN this week Smith gave his thoughts on the October 29 clash between Azim and Davies.
“Ohara’s obviously a good fighter, I just think Adam will be too sharp, too fast, too young for him,” Smith said.
“The only interesting thing is Ohara can obviously bang. If he is able to land a clean shot on Adam it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts to it but I could see Adam maybe getting the win inside five rounds.”
