CRUISERWEIGHT Paul Bamba has passed away at the age of 35.

The news of Bamba’s death was announced by his manager Ne-Yo on Friday (December 27). In a statement released on Instagram the American singer/songwriter described him as a “tremendous individual”.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives.

“He was a fierce yet confident competitor with an unrelenting ambition to achieve greatness. But more than anything, he was a tremendous individual that inspired many with his exceptional drive and determination.

“We are heartbroken by his passing and kindly ask for privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we collectively navigate our grief.”

The news came six days after Bamba’s last fight, a sixth round win over Rogelio Medina Luna at the Carteret Performing Arts Centre in Carteret, New Jersey. Bamba’s 19th career win earned him the WBA Gold cruiserweight belt which was his 14th bout of 2024. His run began with a second round knockout of 0-5 Guillermo Ponce in Colombia. This year Bamba also fought in Puerto Rico, Mexico and the USA.

The Puerto Rican-born New Yorker, ranked 12th by the WBA, had called out Jake Paul for a future fight after his win over Medina.

Writing on Instagram following the victory, Bamba said: “This year I set out with a goal. I did just that! Wasn’t easy there were many obstacles that I adapted to overcame and kept on the path we set regardless of extenuating circumstances.

“If you got what some might call an “outlandish goal” go chase it. Anyone who thinks that isn’t as brave as you, prove people wrong.”

Everyone at Boxing News wishes to pass on their condolences to Bamba’s family, friends and loved ones.
