Terence Crawford could well end his illustrious career undefeated.
The pound-for-pound superstar has overcome all challenges since turning professional in 2008, scoring wins over fighters such as Errol Spence Jr and Shawn Porter as he claimed undisputed honours at both super-lightweight and welterweight.
‘Bud’ also won world titles at 135lbs and 154lbs, but his biggest victory came this September when he defeated Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, becoming the undisputed super-middleweight champion in the process.
Following that elite performance, many boxing fans believe that five-weight world champion Crawford won’t ever be beaten, but Father Time can always come calling, or another weight jump could affect his performance. That was the case with Roy Jones Jr, who Crawford believes was unstoppable in his prime.
Speaking to Piers Morgan ahead of the clash with Canelo, Crawford named Hall of Fame inductee Jones as his favourite boxer.
“Roy Jones Jr. He was unbeatable in his prime. He’s my boxing hero. He will always be my favourite of all time.”
Jones won world titles in four divisions throughout the course of his glittering career, defeating fellow legends like Bernard Hopkins and James Toney along the way.
After 50 professional fights, Jones had only tasted defeat once – a controversial disqualification loss to Montell Griffin which he avenged with a first round knockout win in their immediate rematch less than five months later.
Jones struggled towards the back end of his career, particularly when he moved back down from winning the heavyweight title and age caught up with him. His final record stands at 66 wins and 10 defeats, but it is clear to see exactly why Crawford believes the boxing legend was unbeatable at his very best.
