CONOR Benn is seemingly confident that his rematch with Chris Eubank Jr, which was agreed prior to their first encounter, will indeed go ahead.
The pair squared off in an all-action war towards the end of last month, with Eubank, 35-3 (25 KOs), securing three 116-112 scorecards to emerge victorious.
Nevertheless, Benn, 23-1 (14 KOs), gave a titanic effort to not only push his rival to the brink but also cement himself as a ferocious contender.
His chin, more than anything, proved almost indestructible during their final two rounds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, where ‘The Destroyer’ weathered a hellacious onslaught from his significantly more seasoned opponent.
Aside from the greater experience of Eubank, Benn was also forced to contend with a notable size disadvantage after moving up 13lbs from his self-proclaimed most natural division.
As a result, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn expressed his interest in seeing the 28-year-old drop back down to welterweight, or even super-welterweight, during his post-fight press conference.
But now, with terms for their rematch, according to Hearn, remaining the same, it would appear that the pair are likely to collide once again later this year.
“As far as I’m aware, the contracts have already been signed,” Benn said on DAZN’s Ariel and Ade show. “I’m hearing September [at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium], or Wembley [Stadium] maybe.”
With a rematch clause in place, it can be assumed that, like he did before their first fight, Eubank will be compelled to keep below a 10lb rehydration cap.
But while his second-day weigh-in was far from ideal, it appeared that the 35-year-old’s battle to make the 160lb limit was not exactly straightforward, either.
And yet, unless there is a loophole in their previously agreed contracts, it would seem that both the weight and rehydration clause will remain consistent.
