Conor Benn employing fresh methods to control emotions in Eubank rematch

CONOR Benn admits that emotion overtook strategy in their first encounter. Now, the 29-year-old plans to take a different approach in their November 15 rematch.

He has enlisted the help of Wim Hof, the world-renowned trainer and method specialist, to enhance his mental fortitude. Hof is equipping Benn with techniques in breath control and emotional regulation, skills that could prove decisive in the high-pressure environment of the ring.

‘Even when the body is strong, they lose when the brain gets hijacked by emotion. If you can breathe when pressure is high, you become untouchable. Boxing is 80% emotional control. Conor has the skill, now he must master his mind’ – Wim Hof

Not to be outdone, Eubank Jr. has also revamped his camp. He’s brought in superstar trainer Brian ‘Bo Mac’ McIntyre, fresh off Terence Crawford’s career-defining victory over Canelo Alvarez.

This signals that Eubank Jr. is approaching the rematch with a sharpened strategy and renewed determination to maintain his edge, while taming any emotional intensity.

The stakes extend beyond personal glory, with legacy on the line and each fighter battling not just for themselves but for their family names.

On the undercard, Jack Catterall faces Ekow Essuman in a super-lightweight bout that could determine the next title contender. It will also be Catterall’s first fight with his new Philadelphia-based trainer Derek “Bozy” Ennis, whom he brought in to elevate his career.

Unbeaten Adam Azim was all set to take on Zaur Abdullaev, aiming to continue his rise toward a world title shot. The Russian withdrew due to visa issues and a replacement is being sought at the time of writing.

Puncher Richard Riakporhe meets undefeated Tommy Welch, the son of former world title challenger Scott Welch, in a heavyweight clash of contenders looking to take the next step.

The incredibly active Ishmael Davis is back out again, following a narrow loss in Belfast, this time facing Sam Gilley (18-1-1, 9 KOs) in a super-welterweight showdown.

Liverpool prospect Mikie Tallon takes on Fezan Shahid (4-2-2, 0 KO) in a flyweight bout to kick off the evening.
