WOLVERHAMPTON welterweight Conah Walker is lining up his next fight by getting busy with some online goading of a possible American foe.
Since losing narrowly to Lewis Crocker in the summer of 2024, Walker, 16-3-1 (7 KOs), has rebounded with three straight victories, the last of which came in June of this year as he stopped Liam Taylor in round seven of a British title defence.
Walker’s fan-friendly style, ability to shift tickets and willingness to take on all-comers, regardless of setbacks, have prompted Eddie Hearn to back him. That backing appears to have now led to a slot on the Eubank-Benn 2 undercard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as whispers grow ever louder.
‘The Wolf’ has been engaging in a bit of back-and-forth banter with the team of eccentric welterweight Blair Cobbs on Instagram, suggesting ‘The Flair’ will provide the opposition in November.
While playing The Simpsons theme tune, Walker wrote, “Come on sideshow bob, lets see how much youve got left old boy”, proceeding to tag in Cobbs and add an image of his mooted adversary.
When Cobbs’ manager Elliott Amoakoh enquired as to whether vocal spinner Sam Jones had put Walker up to the call out, Jones jumped in, responding, “I don’t need to put [Conah Walker] up to anything. Let’s get it on”.
Much ado about nothing, perhaps, or a faux frenzy around a fight that has already been made? Time will tell. Cobbs, 35, brings a style that should mesh well with Walker’s.
Blair, 17-1-1 (10 KOs), like many of his contemporaries, has suffered from inactivity recently and will be 17 months removed from his win over Adrien Broner should the November date come to pass.
