Clayton sees off Leach

LEE CLAYTON scored his third win of the year to make it three victories since his last defeat.

The Heywood man, who produced arguably his best display to date at the same venue last time out, once again lit up the Village Hotel atop Kieran Farrell’s latest small-hall offering.

Clayton took on Ricky Leach on the five-fight card and was dominant against a competitor who has gone the distance in all but six of his contests.

Referee Phil Edwards awarded Clayton –– wearing Apollo Creed-style starred and striped trunks –– victory by a 39-38 margin after Westbrook’s Leach had a go towards the end of the contest and made it difficult for the home man.

Warrington’s Danny Craven built on his Wythenshawe win last month with another victory.

“Taz” had outpointed Richard Harrison at the Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre on an M22 Promotions card and followed that up here against Paignton’s Shane Medlen in a tight yet exciting affair which third man Edwards gave to him by a point (39-38).

George Brennan recorded his second triumph of the calendar year and is now unbeaten since losing to Zahid Hussain for the vacant Central Area featherweight title back in September 2018.

Altrincham’s “Cereal Killer” got the better of Swindon’s Joe Beeden on Mr Edwards’ scorecard, winning all four rounds for a 40-36 verdict.

There were also wins for Gerome Warburton and Sion Yaxley. The Welsh duo, from Colwyn Bay and Ruthin respectively, came away with victories –– each over four rounds –– against Devon’s Adam Bannister and Peterborough-based Lithuanian Kristaps Zulgis.

Referee Edwards scored both contests by the same margin at 40-36.

The Verdict Promoter Farrell continues his monopoly of the local small-hall scene as Clayton continues his fine run.
