CHRIS EUBANK JNR has signed with Matchroom and will appear on the October 24 in Sheffield. Esteemed trainer Adam Booth has joined the team and will assist Ronnie Davies with coaching duties. Eubank will also appear in London at the O2 on December 12.
“I’m really relaxed that we have a team. I believe Matchroom can give Junior the opportunities to get to the very top,” said Chris Eubank Snr, sitting alongside his son.
Eubank Jnr has not fought since halting Dmitry Chudinov in February when he claimed the Interim WBA middleweight strap. That contest was the Brightonian’s first since losing a tight 12-round grudge match to Saunders last November.
“I’m ready. I’ve been out of the ring for six or seven months. It’s been too long,” said Eubank Jnr before indicating a willingness to divide his time between the middleweight and super-middleweight divisions.
“You don’t have to be a genius to recognise a special fighter and Chris is a special fighter,” said Booth. “He has the talent to be great.”
Opposing him is likely to be quality Islington southpaw John Ryder, who is coming off a May stoppage loss to Nick Blackwell for the British middleweight title.
Davies added: “I’ve never seen anything like him in the gym in my life. I was in the next room when he was born and I always knew he would be a fighter, even as a kid he was strong.”
In the light of today’s news that Wladimir Klitschko has withdrawn from his world heavyweight title defence against Tyson Fury – scheduled for Düsseldorf on the same night – show promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that the Sheffield show will go on, and fights have been contracted with Box Office fees in mind. It is believed that the Sheffield show will go ahead as a pay-per-view event.
