FROM cancellation controversy to egg slaps and relentless jibes, the Chris Eubank Jr.- Conor Benn fight has been years in the making. Now, things are about to go up another level. As part of the fun and festivities of fight week, Eubank Jr has been presented with a bespoke jacket to celebrate the next instalment of a grudge match that has crossed families and decades.
Eubank Jr and Benn clash this weekend in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the jacket harks back to a previous Eubank Jr clash when he exacted revenge over Liam Smith, who also appears on the April 26 card (against Aaron McKenna).
Luxury streetwear brand 1909 has hooked up with viral designer Antonia Bronze to put it together. Eubank-Benn has taken years to ferment and the handcrafted 1909 jacket has been a work six months in the making.
To add to the intrigue, over 30 per cent of the item is made up of the blood-covered canvas from that Smith rematch effort. No doubt pleased at sending out such a macabre message to his rival, Eubank Jr. asked, “This is real blood? That’s sick. I’m a big jacket guy and that is a sexy jacket.”
Myles Jordan, Creative Director of 1909, added: “1909 is all about creating luxury streetwear inspired by the sport of boxing and this jacket embodies that. The materials we use are just as important as the designs we make and it’s a pleasure to create something special for Chris.”
Designer Antonia Bronze said, “I met Eubank Sr on Brighton beach when I was a kid and I thought he was so cool. So when this job came about it was a full circle moment for me and even though it’s completely different to my other jobs I’m always open to trying new things & finding new ways to document athletes’ stories and achievements.”
