HOW long must we wait for Chris Eubank Jr’s much advertised, but so far utterly unrealised, mega fight? A rematch with Billy Joe Saunders never materialised, a clash with Gennady Golovkin was negotiated and then abandoned last year. He talked up fighting James DeGale, even Andre Ward at light-heavyweight. In the mean time we have to make do with Eubank boxing unknown Australian Renold Quinlan on Saturday (February 4).

This contest is on a new ITV Box Office pay-per-view platform and maybe this will give Eubank the clout to finally snare a significant name. He seems to hope so. “Super-middleweight, light-heavyweight, middleweight, these are all the possible fights that can be made now. On ITV we have the platform and there’s nobody getting in the way, there’s no middlemen confusing situations. So all these big fights can be made now in 2017,” Eubank Jr said.

“I’m not looking too far ahead. Obviously everybody has their goals, their dreams and I’m working towards those. But I’m not overlooking this man. He’s travelled halfway across the world to come here and defend his title. I’ve got respect for that. He didn’t have to do that, he didn’t have to be here. He could have taken an easier route. He wants to test himself against the best and it will be an extremely tough test. This isn’t going to be a walk in the park. It’s going to be a hell of a fight. We’re on a great platform ITV Box Office, I can’t wait to get there and show you guys what I’ve been working on.”

He ran through his familiar battle cry, calling out everyone vaguely near his weight. “I’m coming for everybody. DeGale, I want the rest of those teeth. I’ve told everybody I’m going to put them on my mantelpiece. Golovkin, I know I can beat him. He’s seen by some of you guys as one of the pound-for-pound best in the world, I don’t believe it. I don’t see it. I know I have the beating of that man. I watch him fight and I can see holes. I guess he’s got power but it’s going to take a hell of a lot more than that beat me and I’ve got a very nice little plan for that man. So Golovkin, I’m coming for you, I’m going to roast that guy. Again Saunders, I’m never going to get past that fight, I’m never going to have him out of my mind until I right that wrong. He has a win over me. I need to even the score and these are all fights that can be made in 2017, hopefully here on ITV,” he declared.
