CHRIS EUBANK JNR has responded to criticism related to his no-show at Monday’s press conference to promote his November 29 showdown with Billy Joe Saunders.

While European, Commonwealth and European middleweight champion, Saunders flew back from Marbella to be at the London event, Eubank decided not to attend. It is understood he was upset by Saunders’ recent claims during a video interview that he wanted to slap the challenger.

Promoter Frank Warren was furious but the young fighter explained his actions during an interview with BT Sport:

“I respect the business of boxing so much which is why I didn’t come to the press conference because Billy Joe Saunders is unprofessional about things he might do and say. That brings a bad light on British boxing and we need to stay away from things like that. My job is to get in the ring, beat him and take the belts.”

Find out what happened at the press conference here.

Tris Dixon, Boxing News editor, gives his views in this week’s issue – available to download from Tuesday evening.

‘Chris Eubank Jnr was speaking to BT Sport’s ‘Boxing Tonight’ programme, to see the full interview watch BT Sport 1 from 10.15pm tonight.’
